Photo of the day: Filipino Beer

Surprisingly, I hadn't had one of these babies as often as I'd like to. Has anyone here tried Red Horse beer before? Hm, yeah... a little too strong for me. I prefer San Miguel instead.

Photo of the day: BakPak hostel

Welcome to our humble abode. You will find this room covered with sports and skateboarding posters (it's a mixed dorm). We've been rooming with some laid-back Aussie gals and a Dutch couple. I feel like I'm living in the dorms all over again.

Photo of the day: Happy Holidays

Here's a little something from Lara and I, a home made post card from the islands of Thailand. Merry Christmas from us both! Wish we could spend the holidays with you all back home. Love and miss you all. =)

Photo of the day: Island School

How freakin' cool is it that this school is directly across from the beach? I can't imagine going to a school where my schoolyard shares the same space as sand, sea shells, tourists and long boats. It's crazy! I wonder what their dress code and extracurricular activities are like.

Photo of the day: Bamboo tattooing

This is a picture of a tourist getting a tattoo done by some of the guys across from our guest house from The Leo Tattoo Shop. We literally observed this guy from the beginning of the tattooing process all the way until it was nearly finished. I'm pretty sure he agreed to getting something douchey--like wings on his back (perhaps slightly smaller than his intended size-- we noticed from our balcony that the design kept getting edited). It's too bad he won't be able to enjoy the beach since it's recommended to avoid exposure to the sun and water after getting tattoos.

Photo of the day: My little beach friend

I miss Biggie! This guy here, just got out of the water not too long after I took this picture. He ran towards me and just laid there for a few moments. He looked at me and I thought to myself, "you must be living the life here, my friend!" He looked happy and it made me smile. He later left me for more swim time. I think the resort owner owns this dog... who knows, there's a lot of stray dogs running loose here in Thailand.

Photo of the day: Painting at Hasadee School

Today, we went back to Hasadee school to help with a mural. Dave organized a few of his students to come help us paint various Thai foods, vegetables and fruits. This is a picture of me doing some touch-ups on a famous Japanese cartoon, Doraemon that's quite popular here in Thailand.

Photo of the day: Van features

Too bad they only had Thai songs available in this van. Even the phonetic spelling was difficult to follow!

Photo of the day: Happy Birthday, Bryan

I'm not sure about how often you check this thing, but I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday all the way from Thailand. Om should be happier! He's holding up the "Happy". I love you. <3

Photo of the day: Fish massage

Today, Lara, Ming & I went to the local Nong Khai mall to get a fish massage. These tiny fish basically ate off all our dead skin cells. It gave us an uncomfortable sensation the moment we placed our feet into the tanks. We sat for 30 minutes enjoying our frozen yogurt, squirming, laughing, and cringing at the sight and feeling of these little guys nibbling at our feet. My feet felt unbelievably smoother after this experience!

Photo of the day: Personal packages

I just received a package from my parents today! Days like these remind me of college. I know, I know, San Jose is not that far from SC, but the gesture is always a positive and warm-hearted one. Ahem, this is an open invitation to send future packages... cause you know, my birthday IS around the corner. Haha.

Photos of the day: Tilt shifting

A picture of the view from our hotel in Tokyo. Taken during my trip to visit Tokyo, summer 2009
Lara and I journal writing while listening to some soothing music on our pier. I also tried using this technique called 'Tilt-shift" on this image and the one above to make things in the image appear smaller and toy-like. I'm working on other as well, more to come. =)

Photo of the day: Isara Bokeh

I tried making a Bokeh with the Isara logo, a person with their arms out. I took this in our classroom shortly after making Halloween decorations for the party on Friday. Not quite the best, but I'll be working on a better shot with this sleeve.

Photo of the day: Birthdays

This is a picture of Gam & Pompam, two of our students from the advanced class. They invited us out for their birthday dinner the same day we returned from Laos. Happy birthday, girls!

Photo of the day: Bokeh

I've recently purchased a Nikon 50mm and decided to test out the fantastic features on this lens. A friend of mine, Andrew Yan inspired me to making my first bokeh (a Japanese term for 'blur'). Any potential photographers reading this, I suggest you try making one of your own as well! Here's a helpful link that guided me through creating this image: DIY BOKEH.

This is a photo of the shops next door to us. Taken on Mee Chai rd.

Photo of the day: Late night rides

For the nights we let our hair down, allowing the breeze fuel us with electricity, leaving us unkempt and free.

Photo of the day: Orchids

Along with the quotes, I want to start a mini-photo project for this blog to explore my artistic abilities: Photo of the day!

Lara and I usually buy fried bananas at this shop a block away from our house. This block is floored with beautiful flowers, reaching into the middle of street. This is a picture of some beautiful orchids that so effortlessly grow in this weather. It reminds me of my mom, since she's such a fan of orchids, like many Filipino women (hah!).
